In 2020, members of the SVU were responsible for initiating and implementing Tele-Forensic Interviewing during the COVID-19 pandemic. A tele-forensic child interview is a neutral, structured, fact-finding interview intended to elicit disclosure of abuse or neglect or details about incidents that a child may have experienced or witnessed that may be helpful in response to a child abuse or neglect allegation. The tele-forensic interview is conducted via a video conferencing platform and may be done in circumstances where the ability to conduct in-person interviews is not reasonable or as otherwise needed. The Tele-Forensic Interview Model was supported by the New Jersey Finding Words Program and our policy was the model policy for every Prosecutor’s Office in the state of New Jersey. Additionally, our policy and training program received support and recognition on the national level to include the Gunderson National Child Protection Training Center.
